Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has expressed his sadness for Syria where the regime forces and opposition groups have been fighting for almost 17 months.
Speaking at the OIC's extraordinary summit meeting in Mecca on Tuesday, Ihsanoglu said that Syria was having a journey in a tunnel with no light at its end.
"Unfortunately, Syria is experiencing a state of pitched battle that OIC has persistently has warned about. This is a result of turning a blind eye to people's rightful demands," said Ihsanoglu.
Ihsanoglu also said that they had been seeing sharp curving in the world of Islam.
Ihsanoglu called on the international community to take steps against what Israel has been doing in Jerusalem.
"Holy city Jerusalem has been witnessing hazardous attacks, particularly targeting the Islam identity at an unprecedented scale," said Ihsanoglu.
Ihsanoglu also called on the international community to assist Rohingya Muslims who are facing hard living conditions at the refugee camps in Bangladesh after escaping violence against them by Myanmar authorities due to their religion and ethnic identity.
