Spokesperson for the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces (SNC), Khaled al-Salih on Thursday said that they took a decision today to expand the coalition and add 31 new members.
Speaking to reporters after the first day sessions of the General Assembly Meeting of the SNC in Istanbul, al-Salih stressed that the coalition was made up of 63 members and that they decided to invite 31 new members to the coalition.
"We have established an education committee within the coalition to help Syrian youth continue their education without being adversely affected by the war in Syria," al-Salih noted.
"During the sessions, we debated border control," al-Salih said.
"We exchanged views on establishing a police force for the security of border crossings. Sub-governor of Reyhanli town, Yusuf Guler joined our meeting today. We offered our condolences to him. Guler provided information to us on the situation of Syrian refugees in the region. During the sessions, we decided to expand the coalition. Nine individuals did not join debates on how the expansion should be. We invite those people to join the debates," al-Salih stated.
"We wish to see more women present in the coalition. Only 3 out of 60 members are women. We really want the Syrian women to be represented within the coalition. We also believe we need to strengthen our ties with the field. As such, we will work so that revolutionary groups and political groups associated with the Free Syrian Army get represented more in the coalition," al-Salih also said.
