Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited on Sunday the Gagauz Autonomous Region as part of his formal program in Moldova and met with Gagauz Turks living there.
Davutoglu and his delegation were greeted by the head of the Gagauz Autonomous Region Mihail Formuzal and other officials at their arrival in the capital of Gagauz Autonomous Region, Komrat.
Formuzal and other officials welcomed the Turkish delegation with salt and bread in their hands.
Speaking to reporters in Komrat, Minister Davutoglu said that they felt at home in the Gagauz Autonomous Region.
Davutoglu said that he was the first Turkish Foreign Minister to visit Moldova and the Gagauz Autonomous Region after Moldova gained independence.
We will soon mutually eliminate all visa requirements with Moldova and sign a free trade agreement, Davutoglu stressed.
"The Gagauz Autonomous Region happens to be a bridge of friendship between Turkey and Moldova. We are the branches of the same tree. We are 75 million plus 200,000", Davutoglu indicated.
Ahmet Davutoglu later listened to the problems and requests of Gagauz Turks.
Davutoglu also attended a special rite at the Ivan Church in Komrat on Sunday.
