Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport has broken all-time plane traffic record on September 3, 2012.
According to information gathered by Anadolu Agency correspondent, Ataturk Airport which was the European leader in terms of the passenger traffic in April, has now broken all-time plane traffic record.
Ataturk Airport's landing and take-off traffic was 929 in 2008, 932 in 2010 and 1069 in September 2011, and it has reached the peak when the number of planes arriving and departing hit 1,132 within 24 hours on September 3, 2012.
In another saying, the airport runways were busy in every 75 seconds.
On September 3, 553 aircraft departed and 579 planes landed at Ataturk Airport, Turkey's biggest airport in Istanbul.
With the latest figures, the number of passengers totalled over 129,000.
Ataturk International Airport is the main international airport serving Istanbul, Turkey. Opened in 1924 and located in Yesilkoy, on the European side of the city, it is 24 km of the city centre. In 1980, the airport was renamed to Ataturk International Airport in honor of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder and the first president of the Republic of Turkey.
