ISTANBUL
Istanbul, Turkey's largest city with great cultural and historic affluence, has attracted almost 6.2 million foreign tourists in the first eight months of 2012.
According to the figures by Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry, the number of foreign tourists rose by 18 percent in the mentioned period when compared to the same period last year.
The city attracted 451,662 tourists in January, 494,124 tourists in February, 659,826 tourists in March, 818,788 in April, 867,511 in May, 939,508 in June, 966,337 in July and 950,062 in August.
Most of tourists were from Germany.
