Deputy Director Ihsan Akbiyik of General Directorate of Highways said on Friday that five bids have been submitted for the tender on "Northern Marmara Highway Project" as of 10:00 a.m. today.
Istanbul has two bridges as Bosphorous Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. The state is planning to construct the third bridge which will connect the northern parts of Istanbul.
The new bridge was designed to enable road and rail traffic from Europe to pass straight to the Anatolian mainland without passing through Istanbul.
Salini-Gulermak joint venture, Ictas Construction Industry & Commerce Corp.-Astaldi joint venture group, China Communications Construction-Dogus Construction & Commerce Corp.-Yapi Center-Arkon Construction joint venture, MAPA Construction & Commerce Corp., and Cengiz Construction-Kolin Construction-Limak Construction-Makyol Construction-Kalyon Construction are the bidders, said Akbiyik.
Earlier, officials had cancelled an open tender for the third bridge as none of the 18 participating companies submitted a bid. The potential bidders had included Japan's Mitsubishi, Italy's Astaldi, Russia's Moskovskiy Metrostroy, Austria's Stradag and Spain's FCC.
