ANKARA

Here is Anadolu Agency’s rundown of the latest developments on the coronavirus pandemic in Turkey and across the world.

The novel coronavirus continues rapidly spreading around the world. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases globally is now over 1.1 million while over 64,000 people have died and over 246,000 have recovered.

Turkey on Saturday confirmed 76 more deaths and 3,013 new cases, bringing the death toll to 501 and the tally of cases to 23,934.

As part of Turkey’s efforts to curb coronavirus, 15,756 new arrivals from abroad have been quarantined in 78 students dormitories across the country’s 51 provinces.

Although Italy, one of the world's worst-hit countries, reported 681 new deaths due to COVID-19, the number of fatalities and new cases now being reported are lower than in recent weeks.

As for other European heavyweights, the death toll in Spain climbed to 11,744 with 809 new deaths, the lowest daily toll of this week there, while France saw 1,053 deaths, bringing the toll to over 7,560.

The death toll in Britain surged to 4,313 with an additional 708 cases. Sadly, Britain reported the death of a 5-year-old child from coronavirus. Moreover, England decided to temporarily release up to 4,000 prisoners in efforts to curb the novel virus.

Also in the U.S., the number of deaths from COVID-19 reached 7,163.

Although relatively low figures,Arab countries including Palestine, Oman, Morocco, Lebanon also announced new cases and deaths from COVID-19.

The U.S. provided $1.2 million in supplies for COVID-19 prevention efforts toYPG/PKK terrorists.

Separately, Turkey's efforts on fighting against terrorism also continues in Syria, as the country killed 24 YPG/PKK terrorists in Turkey's Operation Euphrates Shield zone, northwestern Syria.

In other news, boxing heavyweight title match in England between Anthony Joshua and Kubrat Pulev has been postponed due to coronavirus.

In Britain, the country’s main opposition Labour Party’s Brexit spokesman was elected as the new leader of his party. Sir Keir Starmer won with 56.2% of the vote in the first round.
