ISTANBUL
Turkey's Fenerbahce claimed the 2014 CEV Women's Volleyball Cup on Saturday, hours after the club's men's volleyball branch had clinched its first continental trophy.
'The Yellow Angels,' as the members of the team are called, wasted no time in winning the second leg of the finals by edging Russian side Uralochka 3-0 at Istanbul's Burhan Felek Arena.
Fenerbahce had won the first leg in Russia by 3-2 Wednesday.
The victory marks the second continental championship for Fenerbahce's women's volleyball team, as the storied multi-sports club claimed the CEV Champions League -- Europe's most prestigious volleyball tournament -- in 2012.
Earlier on Saturday, their male counterparts, called Fenerbahce Grundig for sponsorship reasons, grabbed their first European trophy when they shut out Italy's Andreoli Latina in the same arena in the second leg of the 2014 CEV Men's Volleyball Challenge Cup finals.
The men won the match in straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-17) to overcome Wednesday's first leg loss by 3-2 at the Italian side's venue.
CEV Women's Volleyball Cup is the second most prestigious volleyball club competition in Europe, whereas CEV Men's Volleyball Challenge Cup is the third-tier contest.
