Manchester United completed the transfer of 25-year-old Spanish trequartista Juan Mata on Saturday.
The official Manchester United website announced that the Red Devils had transferred Spanish international Mata from Chelsea for a club-record fee. It said details would be announced later.
The British press has reported that Manchester United will pay 35-40 million British pounds as a transfer fee. Previously, the club's highest transfer fee had been 30.75 million British pounds paid to Tottenham Hotspur for Bulgarian forward Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.
Spanish trequartista Mata was transferred from one of the Spanish La Liga teams, Valencia, to a London side, Chelsea, for 23.5 million British Pounds in 2011. With Chelsea, Mata scored 33 goals in 145 matches.
