Ugandan golfer Ruth Tumusiime clinched victory Saturday in the Turkish Airlines Kampala qualifying World Golf Cup Amateur Series.

It is the first time the East African country participated in the tournament, signifying a milestone.

Ali Özdemir, Turkish Airlines manager in Uganda, said Tumusiime earned a round-trip business class flight courtesy of Turkish Airlines to compete at the prestigious Grand Golf World Cup Finale in Antalya, later this year.

The tournament at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Uganda was attended by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Uganda, Fatih Ak.

The Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup is the world’s largest corporate golf event, which had 118 qualifying matches in more than 70 countries with over 8,000 participants.

The initial years of the tournament saw winners play alongside Tiger Woods, Henrik Stenson, Martin Kaymer and Rory McIlroy.
