Poland's left-back Maciej Rybus has been dropped from the team after he joined Russian club Spartak Moscow, the Polish Football Association confirmed on Monday.

In a statement, the association said the 32-year-old has been told he will not be called up for the training camp in September, and will not play for Poland at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Rybus, who has played 66 times for Poland, joined Spartak Moscow on a free transfer from Lokomotiv Moscow on June 11.

Earlier, Poland refused to face Russia in the 2022 World Cup playoff semi-final in March because of the war in Ukraine, which began on Feb. 24.

Poland is a staunch ally of Kyiv and has hosted over 4 million Ukrainian refugees since the start of the conflict that Moscow describes as a “special military operation.”
