Polish president, UK premier discuss bilateral ties, Ukraine in London
Increasingly close cooperation between UK, Poland on defense projects good for 'both bilateral relationship, European security,' says Keir Starmer
LONDON
Polish President Karol Nawrocki on Tuesday, on his first visit to London since taking office, discussed bilateral ties and Ukraine with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
In a statement, Starmer's office said that during the meeting, both leaders reflected on the strength of the relationship between the UK and Poland.
They agreed that their countries would deepen that relationship even further, from defense and security, to trade, commerce and education, according to the statement.
"The increasingly close cooperation on the defence projects was good for both the bilateral relationship and European security," said Starmer.
Starmer also welcomed an agreement for Polish helicopter pilots to begin training in the UK in the next few months, "integrating the British and Polish Armed Forces even further."
Turning to Ukraine, the pair agreed on the importance of securing a just and lasting peace in the country, with the Russia-Ukraine war now nearing the four-year mark.
The British premier also thanked Nawrocki for Poland’s ongoing involvement in the discussions around Ukraine security guarantees.
