Second round matchups of the UEFA Champions League continued Tuesday with victories by Manchester City and Atletico Madrid in matches highlighted by 14 goals.

Manchester City beat Monaco 5-3 in a thriller at City of Manchester Stadium as the English team managed to fight back from a 2-1 deficit at the half.

Argentinian striker Sergio Agüero scored twice for Manchester City and John Stones and Leroy Sane found the net in a 24-minute span that sparked the comeback against the French team.

Monaco record two goals from Colombian striker Radamel Falcao who also missed a penalty kick while his team was up 2-1.

The eight-goal bonanza was the highest-ever in the first leg of the Champions League knockout tie.

In the other match of the evening, Spain's Atletico Madrid topped Germany's Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in an away game.

Saul Niguez, Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro and Fernando Torres each scored for Atletico as Karim Bellarabi's goal and Atletico defender Stefan Savic's own goal was not enough for Leverkusen.

The wins gives Manchester City and Atletico Madrid the upper hands headed into the Round 16 that will played March 15 at Monaco’s stadium and Atletico's home turf, respectively.
