Indian chess prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway, at the online Airthings Masters rapid chess tournament.

The 16-year-old, who was titled grandmaster at the age of 12 in 2018, defeated Carlsen in 39 moves with black pieces in the historic match held as it was late on Sunday in Norway, according to the news website Chess24.

Praggnanandhaa, nicknamed Pragg, became the youngest player to beat the 31-year-old, who carries the world champion mantle since 2013.

He also became the third Indian player after Viswanathan Anand and Pentala Harikrishna to win against Carlsen in any time format.
