German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer on Monday signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, extending his stay at the club until 2024.

"FC Bayern have extended Manuel Neuer's contract by a further year till 30 June 2024," the German Bundesliga champions said in a statement.

Neuer, 36, joined Bayern Munich from Schalke in 2011 and became the Bavarian team's captain in 2017.

"I'm very pleased that my journey continues at FC Bayern. We'll have a very good team again with which we can play for every title. As a goalkeeper, captain and leader, I want to be the support and a key factor in our big goals," he said.

Calling Neuer “the best goalkeeper,” Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn said that he is very happy to keep the experienced goalkeeper at the club.

"Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper in the world and has been setting the standard around the world for years. It's a huge achievement to be so consistently world class for such a long time. We're very happy to have extended his contract. Manuel is a defining figure in the history of FC Bayern," Oliver Kahn, who is a former Bayern goalkeeper, said.

Neuer helped Bayern Munich win 10 Bundesliga titles, two Champions Leagues, two FIFA Club World Cup, and two UEFA Super Cup trophies.

He made 472 appearances for Bayern Munich.

Separately, Neuer amassed 109 caps for his native Germany and won the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
