Football: Curtain falls on Turkey's Spor Toto Super Lig
Galatasaray, Basaksehir, Besiktas, Trabzonspor, Yeni Malatyaspor to compete in next UEFA competitions
Curtain falls on Turkey's top tier football division after final matches completion on Sunday evening.
The 2018/2019 season has been completed in 'Spor Toto Super Lig' with Galatasaray becoming champions for the 22nd time in their history. The 'Lions' secured a direct entrance to the UEFA Champions League group stages.
Medipol Basaksehir will also try to enter to Champions League matches, they will have to play qualification matches at next season's start.
Besiktas, Trabzonspor and Evkur Yeni Malatyaspor will compete in UEFA Europa League.
With Turkey's league result, Galatasaray also secured a direct participation in the UEFA Champions League.
Galatasaray's Mbaye Diagne also became the top scorer in the season with 30 goals.
The second-placed Medipol Basaksehir drew with Aytemiz Alanyaspor 1-1 to end the season with 67 points.
Basaksehir will play qualification matches to participate in the UEFA Champions League.
On Friday, Besiktas beat Kasimpasa 3-2 to secure the third spot while Trabzonspor also defeated Caykur Rizespor 3-2 and finished the season in the fourth place.
Following the results on Sunday, Bursaspor and Erzurumspor joined Akhisarspor to be relegated to the lower league.
Despite losing to Bursaspor 2-1, Yeni Malatyaspor remained in the fifth place to compete in UEFA Europa League.
With this result, Bursaspor relegated to lower league despite this win. For the first time, a former Turkish league champions (2010 - Bursaspor) relegated to lower league.
Despite beating Istikbal Mobilya Kayserispor 2-0, B.B. Erzurumspor also relegated to lower league.
On Sunday, Fenerbahce also beat Antalyaspor 3-1 to end the season at 6th place.
Denizlispor and Genclerbirligi were both promoted to Turkey's top football division.
