Football: Albania, Serbia's appeals against fines rejected

ANKARA

The appellate panel of European football's governing body has announced that it has rejected appeals submitted by the football associations of Serbia and Albania against penalties imposed on them.

According to a statement from Union of European Football Associations, or UEFA, website, the organization upheld its decision to grant a 3-0 score line in favor of Serbia, and to fine 100,000 euros ($124,000) for both Serbia and Albania. Serbia was also deducted three points in the 2016 European championships qualifiers. Serbia will be forced to play two home qualifiers in an empty stadium, due to their failure in the organization of the Albania match.

On October 14, the two national teams played in the Serbian capital Belgrade. However, the game was interrupted in the 44th minute by a drone flying over the stadium carrying a map of "Greater Albania," which included parts of Serbia.

Serbian fans stormed the pitch in response and attacked Albanian players.
