Ukraine claims Russian strike on Poltava military sites kills 2, injures 47

ISTANBUL

Ukrainian authorities claimed Thursday that a Russian strike in the city of Poltava killed two people and injured 47 others, including two police officers and four servicemen.

Officials said the shelling caused fires at a military recruitment center and also damaged a nearby house.

“Police, rescuers, and doctors from Poltava region continue to provide assistance to citizens injured by the shelling,” the regional police department said in a statement, adding that emergency services remained active at the scene.

Initial reports had listed 24 injured, but authorities later updated the figure to 47.

Russian officials did not immediately comment on the claims.
