ISTANBUL

Russia and Ukraine on Thursday accused each other of overnight drone attacks, which have caused damage to infrastructure.

Leningrad Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko said in a statement on Telegram that a Ukrainian drone attack caused damage at an industrial zone in the northwestern region’s Kirishsky district.

Expressing that no casualties were reported due to the attack, “based on preliminary information,” Drozdenko claimed that a total of 21 Ukrainian drones were repelled over the northwestern region.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed separately that the country’s air defenses shot down 125 Ukrainian drones over 13 regions and the Black Sea, as well as the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.

Ukraine also reported drone attacks in the country, claiming in an Air Force statement on Telegram that its air defenses downed 130 out of 153 drones launched by Russia overnight.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba said that overnight Russian strikes have damaged railway and port infrastructure, and that drones caused damage to locomotives at a maintenance facility in the central Kirovohrad region.

“In southern Ukraine, hits on storage facilities and docks were recorded, and buildings of port operators and the maritime station were damaged,” Kuleba added.

Dnipropetrovsk Governor Oleksandr Hanzha also said separately that strikes on the city of Kyrvyi Rih damaged an infrastructure facility, but gave no further specifics.

He later said that a multi-story building had been damaged in the city of Dnipro. "Preliminarily, there are casualties. The consequences are being clarified."

Both countries have yet to comment on each other’s claims.
