Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Thursday rebuffed allegations about China's involvement in the conflict in Ukraine made by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the country’s president.

Commenting at a press briefing in Moscow on Zelenskyy's statement about capturing two Chinese soldiers in the battle zone, Peskov said Beijing maintains a "balanced position."

"This is not true," he said when asked whether Chinese military are fighting on the Russian side.

"China takes a balanced position. China is our strategic partner, friend, and comrade. China has always taken a very, very balanced position. Therefore, Zelenskyy is wrong," he said.

On Tuesday Zelenskyy claimed Kyiv’s forces clashed with six Chinese soldiers in eastern Ukraine, capturing two of them, and based on this accused Beijing of joining the fighting.
