French parliament adopts symbolic resolution in support of Ukraine
Text ‘urges the European Union and its member states to proceed without delay with the seizure of frozen and immobilized Russian assets'

ISTANBUL
French lawmakers passed a resolution backing increased political, economic and military aid for Ukraine, reinforcing France’s commitment to Kyiv in its war with Russia, according to media reports.
The symbolic text, adopted late Wednesday in a 288-54 vote, also urges Ukraine’s integration into the EU, France.info reported.
The resolution urges the EU, NATO and allied nations to step up assistance to Ukraine and support Kyiv’s EU accession process.
Lawmakers amended the text to advocate for "an independent European defense" and encourage discussions on deploying European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.
A key point of contention during the debate was the potential seizure of Russian assets that are frozen in Europe.
The final text "urges the European Union and its member states to proceed without delay with the seizure of frozen and immobilized Russian assets" to finance Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction.
Left-wing La France Insoumise (LFI) and far-right National Rally (RN) lawmakers, however, opposed the measure, arguing it would violate international law.
