US condemns Russian strikes in Kyiv that killed American citizen
State Department confirms death, offers consular assistance to family

ISTANBUL
The US State Department on Tuesday condemned overnight Russian strikes on Kyiv that killed an American citizen.
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed the American's death and said the US stands ready to provide consular assistance to the family.
"We condemn those strikes and extend our deepest condolences to the victims and to the families of all those affected," Bruce told reporters.
The spokeswoman said President Donald Trump has previously made clear his position on striking civilian areas and called the incident "tragic."
"The department has no higher priority than the safety and security of US citizens abroad," Bruce said.
She added the department will not share further details "out of respect to the family during this obviously horrible time."
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko earlier confirmed a 62-year-old American killed during Russia's overnight air attack on Ukraine's capital.
