Government of Turkmenistan granted approval to the Israeli ambassador who was rejected due to several reasons since 2009.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow has accepted Israeli Ambassador Shemi Tzur's letter of credence at the Presidential "Oguzhan" Palace.
The letter sent by Israeli President Shimon Peres included that Israeli sought to strengthen relations with Turkmenistan and moreover, Ambassador Tzur invited the Turkmen president to Israel.
Furthermore, President Berdimuhamedow noted that they would like to develop their relations with Israel based on friendship and reciprocal interests.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established back in 1992. The Israeli government appointed former Mossad agent Reuven Daniel as their Ambassador to Turkmenistan in 2009 however the Turkmen government rejected Daniel's accreditation as he was a Mossad agent.
Israel's second candidate was also rejected by Turkmenistan due to several other reasons.
