CAIRO (AA) – Egyptian Prosecution has issued warrants of arrest for senior Muslim Brotherhood leaders, including supreme leader Mohammad Badie, on charges of inciting torture, judicial sources told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.
The move follows investigations into alleged incidents of torture by Muslim Brotherhood members of residents and passers-by in Cairo's Rabaa al-Adawiya area, where thousands of supporters of ousted president Mohammad Morsi have been camping out for more than two weeks.
"Investigations indicated that senior Muslim Brotherhood leaders were involved in inciting these crimes," the sources said.
In addition to Badie, warrants have also been issued for Essam al-Erian and Mohammad al-Beltagi.
Several senior leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood have been arrested since the military ousted elected president Mohammad Morsi on July 3 and suspended the constitution.
