ANKARA
More than 40 people, including 31 security forces, were killed in two separate attacks by Daesh in Iraq, authorities said.
Daesh killed 31 security forces in attacks against the Baiji oil refinery in the Salah ad Din Province, in northern Iraq.
Sources from the Salah ad Din Province police department said that Daesh militants had been attacking with heavy weapons and car bombs the refinery since Saturday.
The Baiji oil refinery - Iraq’s largest - has changed hands many times these past months and has not been not operational since June 2014, when Daesh took control of surrounding regions and continuously clashed with Iraqi forces.
Separately, authorities said that 10 people, including a soldier, were killed and 29 were injured Sunday in several Daesh attacks in the capital Baghdad and in the Diyala governorate.
Deadly attacks in Iraq have increased since Daesh militants took control of large parts of Iraq, including the country's second largest city Mosul.
