The European Union praised the new measures put forth by the Turkish government in order to revive the "solution process" initiative, aimed at securing a current ceasefire between Turkey and Kurdish militants in the eastern part of the country.
The Turkish government submitted a new draft law on the "solution process" regarding the Kurdish issue to the Parliament speaker's office last week.
The new law should set a stronger legal ground for negotiations and stability in Turkey, said spokespersons for Catherine Ashton, head of European Union foreign policy, and EU's enlargement policy chief, Stefan Fule, in a joint written statement issued on Tuesday.
"European Union supports these efforts aimed at sustainable peace," said the statement.
According to the draft law, the Turkish government will define the necessary steps regarding political, judicial, social-economic, cultural, human rights, security and disarmament issues in order to end terrorism and strengthen social integration of Kurds in Turkey.
Turkey's "solution process" began early last year with a ceasefire between the Turkish government and the outlawed PKK which is listed as a terrorist organization by several international organizations.
