CAIRO
A criminal court on Monday sentenced 78 supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi to life (25 years of imprisonment) for "murder" and "terrorizing Egyptians" in the Nile Delta city of Mansoura, a judicial source has said.
Convicted individuals had been accused of inciting violence and murder in Mansoura last summer, following the bloody dispersal in August of two pro-Mori sit-ins in Cairo and Giza, the source said.
The same court, meanwhile sentenced 20 students from Al-Azhar University's Mansoura branch, along with one student from another university, to seven years each in jail for alleged involvement in violence last December.
Egyptian authorities have waged a wide-ranging crackdown on members of the Brotherhood, of which Morsi is a leader, since last July, when Morsi was ousted and imprisoned by the army following opposition protests.
