US-Israeli attacks on Tehran caused 'enormous damage' to international nuclear non-proliferation: Iranian President

MOSCOW

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday accused the US and Israel of inflicting "enormous damage to the international non-proliferation regime for nuclear weapons" with their strikes against Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities.

Pezeshkian, speaking via videolink at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council plenary session in the Belarusian capital of Minsk, described the attacks as "brutal" and "illegal."

“On June 13, 2025, the Zionist regime carried out a brutal attack and illegal terrorist armed assaults against the Islamic Republic of Iran. This aggression occurred during indirect negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the US regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program,” he stated.

According to the president, the American-Israeli attacks targeted Iranian civilian nuclear installations under full control of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Pezeshkian stressed that such actions "constitute gross violations of all international norms and severely undermine the credibility of the global nonproliferation framework by a permanent member of the UN Security Council."

On June 25, the Iranian parliament suspended cooperation with the IAEA. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi noted that while the new law clarified the scope of future collaboration with the UN nuclear watchdog, it did not completely block any potential interaction and left such decisions to be determined by Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

Israel launched an attack on Iran on June 13, and Tehran responded less than 24 hours later with counterattacks.

Nine days after the escalation began, the US joined the conflict on Israel's side, with American forces striking three Iranian nuclear targets overnight on June 22.

Later that evening, Iran launched missile strikes on Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US air base in the Middle East.

According to official statements from Washington, the strikes caused no casualties or significant damage. Following that, President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a complete cease-fire, which went into effect on June 24.
