Syrian Army accuses PKK terror group of spreading ‘false, dangerous rumors’ among Syrian Kurds
Military says PKK-linked militias are using fabricated videos and misinformation to intimidate Kurdish communities
ISTANBUL
The Syrian Army on Thursday accused the PKK terror group of spreading “false and dangerous rumors” among the country’s Kurds in an attempt to intimidate civilians and sow mistrust toward state forces.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), citing the army’s Operations Command, said “PKK-affiliated terrorist militias were circulating fabricated and selectively edited videos” and promoting claims “far from reality” to frighten residents from the army.
“We reassure our Kurdish people that we are working to protect them. They are an integral and original component of the Syrian people,” the command said in a statement, adding that government forces are seeking to restore stability across all areas.
The command stressed that Syrians Kurds are free to leave areas of tension and move to any part of the country at any time, describing all of Syria as their home.
“Our problem has been, and remains, with the terrorist PKK militias,” the statement said, accusing the group of attempting to stir discord between the army and Kurdish community as it faces the collapse of its latest “expansionist, destructive ambitions” in the region.
On Sunday, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa announced a ceasefire agreement with the YPG/SDF terrorist group to integrate its members into state institutions.
Under the deal, the SDF will withdraw its military formations east of the Euphrates River and hand over administrative and security control of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces to the Syrian state.
The agreement also provides for the integration of SDF military and security personnel into the Syrian defense and interior ministries following individual security vetting, as well as the transfer of border crossings, oil and gas fields, and civilian institutions to government control.
The deal followed a military operation launched by the Syrian Army, through which it regained wide areas in eastern and northeastern Syria after repeated violations by the SDF of earlier agreements signed with Damascus nearly a year ago.
On Tuesday, however, the SDF launched a series of attacks on Syrian positions, killing 11 soldiers and injuring 25 others.
