Several drones target Kuwait International Airport, says authorities
Civil aviation authority says radar system hit but no injuries reported
ISTANBUL
Several drones targeted Kuwait International Airport on Saturday evening, damaging the airport’s radar system but causing no casualties, authorities said.
The Kuwaiti Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement that the airport was struck by multiple unmanned aerial vehicles.
The authority’s spokesperson, Abdullah Al-Rajhi, said the drones hit the airport’s radar system, but no injuries were recorded.
The incident was handled according to the emergency plan implemented since the start of the crisis, in full coordination with relevant state authorities, the statement said.
It stressed that the authority continues to take all necessary measures to ensure the security and safety of civil aviation in Kuwait.
Separately, the Kuwaiti army said in a statement that its air defense systems responded to “hostile missile and drone attacks.”
Any explosions heard were the result of air defense systems intercepting the incoming threats, it added.
Regional tensions have flared since Israel and the US launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,200 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries, which it says are targeting “US military assets.”
