Interior security units enter city under government-YPG agreement, triggering public celebrations despite curfew
HASAKAH, Syria
Residents of Syria’s Hasakah province warmly welcomed internal security forces affiliated with the Syrian Interior Ministry as they entered the city under an agreement between the Syrian government and the terrorist organization YPG.
According to a report by Syrian state television channel Al-Ekhbariya, the people of Hasakah greeted the Interior Ministry’s internal security units with enthusiasm upon their arrival in the city.
Images shared on social media also showed residents of Hasakah waving Syrian flags and welcoming the Interior Ministry forces.
Despite a curfew imposed by the YPG in Hasakah between 6 am (0300GMT) and 9 pm (0600GMT), residents were seen taking to the streets to celebrate and to welcome the interior ministry forces.
A convoy consisting of eight armored personnel carriers belonging to the Syrian Interior Ministry, numerous four-wheel-drive pickup trucks, ambulances, and a mobile base station vehicle had earlier begun entering the city center from the eastern route, which had been under the occupation of the YPG terrorist organization.
Under the terms of the agreement reached between the Syrian government and the YPG, security responsibilities and state institutions in the YPG-occupied city of Hasakah and the district of Qamishli are to be handed over to the Syrian administration.
