Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Damascus Sunday for his first official visit to Syria, the SANA news agency reported.

Zelenskyy was welcomed by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani upon arrival at Damascus International Airport, alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, SANA said.

Zelenskyy is expected to hold talks with President Ahmad Al-Sharaa during his trip to discuss bilateral and regional issues.

In a separate statement, Zelenskyy said he will hold “important meetings” in multiple formats during his visit to Damascus.

“We continue our active Ukrainian diplomacy aimed at real security and economic cooperation,” he wrote on US social media company X. “Every nation and every region deserves a peaceful life.”
