Pentagon to order 3,000 82nd airborne soldiers to Middle East: Report

WASHINGTON

The Pentagon is planning to deploy a brigade combat team from the US Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East to support operations against Iran, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported Tuesday.

Citing two US officials, the WSJ said a written order to deploy the unit, made up of roughly 3,000 soldiers, is expected in the coming hours.

The Pentagon did not provide additional information when asked by Anadolu on Monday about media reports that have suggested elements of the US Army, including units associated with the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, beginning deployments to the Middle East.

"Due to operations security, we do not discuss future or hypothetical movements," it said.
