RAMALLAH, Palestine / ISTANBUL

A Palestinian man was injured by Israeli gunfire on Monday in the town of Al-Ram, north of occupied East Jerusalem, according to medics.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said in a statement that its teams treated a 43-year-old Palestinian who was shot by Israeli forces near a separation wall in Al-Ram before he was taken to a hospital in Ramallah.

No further details were provided regarding the cause of the attack.

The Israeli army frequently shoots at Palestinian workers who attempt to climb the separation wall to work inside Israel.

East Jerusalem is encircled by a concrete wall topped with barbed wire, most of it built on West Bank land. The barrier rises more than eight meters high and extends for over 200 kilometers, according to the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem.

The attack occurred amid a surge in violence and arrests carried out by the Israeli army and illegal settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

According to the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, illegal Israeli settlers have carried out more than 7,000 attacks against Palestinians and their property in the West Bank since Israel launched its war on Gaza in October 2023.

More than 1,073 Palestinians have since been killed, and 10,700 others were injured, Palestinian figures showed.

In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
