Netanyahu meets senior US negotiators on Iran ahead of Trump talks
Israeli premier confers with Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner in Washington as renewed US-Iran nuclear negotiations loom after last week’s Oman talks
WASHINGTON
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met senior US officials involved in negotiations with Iran on Tuesday shortly after arriving in Washington for talks with President Donald Trump.
Netanyahu held discussions with special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and unofficial adviser, focusing on negotiations with Tehran following talks held last week in Oman, Axios reporter Barak Ravid said in a post on the US social media company X.
The meeting reportedly took place at Blair House, the US president’s official guest residence, hours after Netanyahu arrived for his sixth official visit to the US since Trump returned to the White House last year.
Talks between Trump and Netanyahu at the White House on Wednesday are expected to center on the next round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US after the first round was held in Oman last week.
Those discussions in Muscat followed a nearly eight-month suspension after Trump’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in June.
Tensions have escalated between Washington and Tehran, driven by a US military buildup in the Persian Gulf and repeated threats of military action by Trump.
