Kuwait denounces Iranian attack on US Embassy
Kuwait considers attack as 'an act that constitutes a blatant violation of all international norms and laws,' says Foreign Ministry
ISTANBUL
Kuwait expressed on Tuesday its "strongest rejection and condemnation" of an Iranian attack that targeted the US Embassy in the Gulf country.
Kuwait considers the attack as "an act that constitutes a blatant violation of all international norms and laws, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which grant immunity to diplomatic premises and personnel even in situations of armed conflict," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It reaffirmed Kuwait’s "full right" to undertake all measures necessary “to safeguard its security, protect its territory, and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents.”
Drones hit the embassy on Monday, with smoke seen rising from the diplomatic mission, according to media reports.
Regional tensions escalated when the US and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Saturday, killing several top Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In response, Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Gulf countries which are home to US assets.
