One person was killed and 25 others were injured in a direct hit in the northern Israeli city of Nahariya following a barrage from Lebanon, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported Thursday.

The national emergency service MDA said one person was in serious condition after rocket shrapnel struck several sites in Nahariya.

The attack caused power outages in parts of the city, and damage to a building and a fire.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that rockets fell at three sites in Nahariya following the barrage.

The Lebanese group Hezbollah said early Thursday that it had carried out 40 rocket and drone attacks against Israeli forces, vehicles and military sites, including the Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv and the army’s Northern Command headquarters.

Israel has pounded Lebanon with airstrikes and launched a ground offensive in southern Lebanon since a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2.

Lebanese authorities said at least 1,116 people have since been killed and 3,229 injured in Israeli attacks.

The escalation came amid a joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran, which has killed more than 1,340 people since Feb. 28. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, US bases and Gulf countries.
