Israeli strike hits Red Cross field hospital in Khan Younis, causing injuries, panic: Health Ministry

GAZA CITY, Palestine/ISTANBUL

The Israeli army targeted an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) field hospital in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, causing injuries and panic for patients and visitors, according to the Palestine Health Ministry.

The ministry said the hospital in the Al-Mawasi area in western Khan Younis came under gunfire from Israeli forces, resulting in injuries and fear for those who were present.

The ICRC has not commented on the incident or released details, and the Health Ministry did not specify the number of wounded or their conditions.

The ministry condemned the shooting as a continuation of Israel’s attacks on hospitals and patients receiving treatment.

It appealed to relevant institutions and authorities to ensure the protection of medical facilities, staff, and patients inside hospitals.

The ICRC announced Sunday that two staffers were killed in an Israeli airstrike that hit their homes in Khan Younis.

On April 17, the organization also reported that one of its offices in Gaza was hit by an Israeli tank shell, the second in three weeks.

It confirmed that both incidents occurred despite the buildings being clearly marked and all parties being regularly informed of their locations.

The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a devastating offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing more than 54,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave.
