Israeli military officer wounded on outskirts of Gaza City amid ongoing offensive
Member of Givati Infantry Brigade injured by shrapnel

JERUSALEM/ISTANBUL
An Israeli military officer was wounded Monday on the outskirts of Gaza City in the north of the enclave as Israel stepped up preparations for fully reoccupying the city.
Channel 7, citing the Israeli army, said an officer from the Givati Infantry Brigade was slightly injured by shrapnel.
No other details were provided on the circumstances of the officer’s injury.
According to the Israeli daily Maariv, Israel is set to begin mobilizing about 60,000 reservists Tuesday in preparation for the reoccupation of Gaza City.
On Sunday, the Israeli security Cabinet convened to discuss a plan dubbed “Gideon’s Chariots 2” to reoccupy Gaza City as a continuation of the “Gideon’s Chariots” operation carried out in the enclave between May 16 and Aug. 4.
The same day, Channel 12 revealed a confidential internal military document in which the Israeli army admitted that “Gideon’s Chariots” failed to achieve its declared goals of primarily defeating the Palestinian group Hamas and recovering Israeli captives from Gaza.
Israel has killed over 63,500 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
