Israeli aviation officials recommend 'immediate closure' of airspace amid Iranian missile strikes
Israeli officials urged transport minister to immediately close Ben Gurion Airport, says Israeli media
ISTANBUL
Israeli aviation officials recommended Sunday the “immediate closure” of Israel’s airspace, as Iranian retaliatory strikes to US-Israeli attacks continued.
Despite restrictions on air traffic since the start of the US-Israeli attacks on Iran late last month, Israeli airspace continues to operate partially, with security assessments ongoing.
According to Channel 13, the officials urged Israel's Transport Minister Miri Regev to immediately close Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv and the country’s airspace before the Jewish Passover, which begins in April, allowing only essential flights.
Talks are scheduled late Sunday evening between professional and security officials, including the director of the Civil Aviation Authority and the director-general of the Airports Authority, the outlet said.
Hostilities in the region have escalated since US and Israeli strikes on Iran began on Feb. 28, with Tehran retaliating with repeated drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
