JERUSALEM

The Israeli army said on Wednesday that it has targeted more than 11,000 places in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7.

Israel continues to intensify its attacks on the blockaded enclave despite growing calls for a cease-fire from the international community.

In a statement, the army claimed that the targets they hit were military areas belonging to Hamas' armed wing, Al-Qassam Brigades.

Israeli forces are continuing their "ground operations" within the Gaza Strip, the statement added.

The images released by the military showed Israeli soldiers and armored vehicles in the devastated border areas of Gaza.

This week the Israeli army has expanded its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise offensive against Israel on Oct. 7.

More than 10,000 people have been killed in the conflict since then – 8,525 Palestinians, including 3,542 children, and 1,538 Israelis.

So far, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the US government, Israel's main ally and military sponsor, have rejected international calls for a cease-fire.
