Iraq extends closure of airspace for additional 3 days as US-Iran war continues Baghdad, Iraq

BAGHDAD

Iraq extended the closure of the country’s airspace on Monday for three more days amid regional escalation following the outbreak of war between Iran, the US and Israel.

In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority called the decision a “precautionary measure,” saying it covers all arriving, departing and transit flights.

It said the closure was extended based on “the continued assessment of the security situation and regional developments.”

Iraq has closed its airspace since Feb. 28 and has since extended it.

Regional escalation has raged since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran since Feb. 28, killing so far around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries, which it says are targeting “US military assets.”
