Iran seeks end to Lebanese ban on its airplanes at Beirut airport
‘Iran and Lebanon must make the best decision in light of their historical relations and mutual interests,’ says Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman

TEHRAN
Iran on Monday expressed hope that a Lebanese ban on its planes at Beirut airport would soon be lifted.
“Iran and Lebanon must make the best decision in light of their historical relations and mutual interests,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told a news briefing in Tehran.
He said the Iranian and Lebanese foreign ministers had a phone conversation to discuss the issue.
“Talks are ongoing, and we hope to reach a reasonable solution that serves the interests of both the Iranian and Lebanese people,” he added.
On Thursday, Lebanon prevented an Iranian plane from landing at Beirut airport, triggering protests from supporters of the Hezbollah group.
The ban came after the Israeli army accused Hezbollah and Iran’s Quds Force of using civilian aircraft to smuggle funds for Hezbollah via the airport.
Separately, Baghaei said Iran will participate in a funeral ceremony for former Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and senior leader Hashem Safi al-Din, who were killed in Israeli attacks last year.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place in Beirut on Sunday.
