Iran demands ‘firm stance’ from Caspian coastal states after US-Israeli attack on Bandar Anzali

ISTANBUL

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned Thursday that US-Israeli attacks on the northern city of Bandar Anzali endanger security and stability in the Caspian Sea, calling for a unified response from littoral states.

In a phone call with Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherebayev, Araghchi discussed regional developments and US-Israeli military attacks against Iran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The top diplomat said Iran continues “defensive operations” against what he described as “aggressor bases in the region,” as part of its right to self-defense, stressing that regional countries have a responsibility to prevent the use of their territories to launch attacks against Tehran.

He warned that attacks on Bandar Anzali have “seriously endangered security and stability in the Caspian Sea,” calling on coastal states to take a “firm and unified stance” against what he described as a “destabilizing act.”

Kosherebayev, for his part, expressed concern over the current escalation and stressed the need for an immediate end to the war, affirming his country’s readiness to help restore stability and security in the region.

The US and Israel have maintained airstrikes on Iran since Feb. 28, killing so far over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
