Iran confirms death of its IRGC naval commander in US-Israeli strike

ISTANBUL

Iran on Monday confirmed that its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri was killed in a US-Israeli strike, Fars news agency said, citing an official statement.

On Thursday, Israel’s defense minister said that Tangsiri had been killed in an airstrike along with all senior Navy command officials in the southern city of Bandar Abbas, according to local media, saying the Iranian commander was responsible for closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The same day, US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Thursday confirmed the death of Tangsiri.
