Flood inundates Israeli military base amid severe storm
Heavy rainfall from weather system causes flooding at central Israel facility
JERUSALEM / ISTANBUL
A military base in central Israel was flooded on Tuesday as a powerful storm brought heavy rainfall to the region, according to the Israeli army.
In a brief statement posted on US social media company X, the military said extreme weather conditions led to flooding at one of its facilities, without providing further details on the location or the extent of damage.
The army said on-site teams moved quickly to contain the flooding and stabilize conditions, stressing that routine operations at the base continued uninterrupted.
The flooding occurred as a low-pressure system swept across the area, triggering intense rainfall in several parts of the region.
The storm system has also affected the occupied Palestinian territories since late Monday, with Palestinian weather authorities warning of severe conditions through Tuesday evening, including heavy rain, strong winds, and a mass of extremely cold polar air.
Wind gusts are expected to exceed 80 to 100 kilometers per hour in some areas, particularly along the coast, the Palestinian Meteorological Department said.
Separately, Israel’s Channel 13 reported that the military has presented a long-term development plan outlining its strategic priorities for the next decade, with projected costs estimated at 350 billion shekels (approximately $111 billion).
According to the report, the proposal, known as the “Hoshen” plan, was submitted to Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir. The name refers to a ceremonial breastplate worn by the Jewish high priest in Jewish tradition, symbolizing the 12 tribes of Israel.
