An airstrike targeted the administrative building of the Hosseinieh Azam Zanjan Complex in Iran’s Zanjan province Tuesday, killing three people and wounding 12 others, said a provincial official.

Ali Sadeghi, deputy governor for political, security and social affairs, said the strike hit early morning and the bodies of three victims were recovered from the rubble, the Tasnim News Agency reported.

He said the injured were transferred to medical centers by emergency teams.

Rescue operations were ongoing, including debris removal and searches for additional victims, with the participation of the Red Crescent, the fire department and municipal crews, Sadeghi said.

The attack caused damage to several parts of the complex, including the administrative building, the guesthouse, the library and a charitable loan fund office, as well as nearby shops, he added.

A regional escalation has continued to flare since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people so far, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel along with Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
