GAZA CITY, Palestine

At least five Palestinians were injured on Friday in an Israeli airstrike on an area housing a displaced persons camp in southern Gaza Strip.

The airstrike was carried out on Khan Younis’ al-Mawasi area, which Israel previously declared a “safe zone" amid its attacks in the Gaza Strip.

Mohammed Al-Mugheer, the director of supply and equipment for Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency, told Anadolu that the strike led to the destruction of the tents set up for the people displaced by the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.

“The raid did not cause any deaths, and injuries were limited as the missile fell on muddy land adjacent to the displaced persons camp,” witnesses told Anadolu.

Earlier in the day, several Palestinians were injured in Israeli airstrikes on the central area of Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, after the International Court of Justice ordered Tel Aviv to halt its military offensive in the city.

Israel continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023 despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire in the enclave.

More than 35,800 Palestinians have been killed, the vast majority of whom have been women and children, and over 80,290 others injured since last October following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas.

More than seven months into the Israeli war, vast swathes of Gaza lay in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.
