At least six people were killed and 22 others injured on Saturday morning when gunmen stormed the judiciary headquarters in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan, according to official and local media reports.

Three members of the courthouse security team were killed defending the building, the official PressTV news agency reported.

The terrorist attack, claimed by the so-called Jaish al-Adl group, began with gunfire directed at the courthouse and later expanded indiscriminately to target civilians in the vicinity, according to the semi-official Mehr News Agency.

The agency quoted an informed source reporting that some citizens and their property were also harmed during the assault.

Initial reports confirm that three of the attackers were killed by security forces, it added.

Emergency responders and security units swiftly surrounded the building and secured the area. The Iranian authorities have launched a full investigation into the attack, and the identities of the victims are yet to be officially released.

The same group, Jaish al-Adl, previously claimed responsibility for a deadly ambush in October 2024 that killed 10 Iranian law enforcement officers in Taftan County, one of the most fatal incidents in the province in recent months.

Zahedan, the capital of the Sistan and Baluchestan province, has previously witnessed unrest and sporadic violence attributed to armed groups operating near the borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan.
