GAZA CITY, Palestine

At least 30 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in Israeli airstrikes on northern Gaza early Sunday, marking the deadliest Israeli escalation since May.

Palestinian medics reported that 30 bodies and several injured people were transported to hospitals in northern Gaza following Israeli airstrikes that struck Jabalia and Beit Lahia.

The strikes coincided with an Israeli ground incursion east of Jabalia, which was reinforced by heavy artillery and air support, according to local sources.

According to medical sources, three Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a home in Jabalia refugee camp, while another was killed when a school near Gaza’s central market was targeted.

Since Saturday night, Israeli forces have carried out over 100 airstrikes in northern Gaza, destroying residential buildings, public facilities, schools, and shelters for displaced people.

Hundreds of Palestinian families were forced to flee from eastern Jabalia to safer areas in northern Gaza and Gaza City.

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that Israeli army vehicles advanced from the east of the Jabalia camp, firing artillery shells and gunfire at homes.

Drones flying low over the region targeted anything moving, adding to the destruction of homes and shelters across much of northern Gaza, they said.

Israeli shelling remained intense through Sunday morning, with targets including residential neighborhoods, public infrastructure, and shelters. Despite this, Israeli drones continued to relentlessly fire at the population, ensuring a constant presence in the region.

According to eyewitnesses, Israeli military forces were attempting to gain control of key areas between Jabalia and its surroundings, using heavy artillery fire to secure dominant positions.

Israel has continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas last Oct. 7, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.

More than 41,800 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 96,900 others injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli onslaught has displaced almost the entire population of the territory amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
